Hoops for Heart Raises $5,500 for American Heart Association

The 11th Annual Hoops for Heart basketball game took place on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Bishop George Ahr High School. In the eleven years that BGA has held this charity game, it has raised over $40,000!

The game featured a BGA faculty/alumni team playing against members of ten BGA student basketball teams. Joining the faculty team was 15 BGA alumni and referees were alumni Bobby Kimball ’80 and Clem Bottone ‘86. The announcer for the game was BGA former head basketball coach Mr. Dennis O’Keefe, and the scorekeeper was BGA AD Mr. Mike Wolfthal. It was a tight game up until the end, when the faculty/alumni team pulled ahead, recording another win with a score of 67-55.

Of course, the real winner was the American Heart Association. The event raised over $5,500.00 for heart disease research.

CSAC Hoops for Heart chairpersons Cheyanne Diem ’19, Sean Healy ’19, Joey Dunn’20 and Jaleena Findley ’20 plus members of the committee and Campus Ministry Department’s Sister Cynthia Marie Babyak, Mr. John Roche, Mr. Kevin McCarthy, Father Keith Cervine all worked diligently on making this charity basketball game a great success.

Half-time proved to be just exciting as the game with a total of 55 people paying to take the half-court shot challenge, with two winners this year: Junior Daniel Devitt ’20 and alumnus Tom Weiler ’15.

The gym was fill with excitement from students, alumni, faculty, and family members who packed the stands cheering on their favorite team. Thank you to the faculty, alumni, parents, and BGA students who played and worked at the event as well as to all who came out and supported this great cause.
