Class of 2020 Celebrates Unity and Diversity at Ring Mass

On the evening of Tuesday, December 11, Bishop George Ahr High School held its Junior Ring Day Mass and ceremony, an annual tradition that dates back to 1969. The theme for the celebration chosen by the class was “These Ahr the Times to Hold On To.” The Juniors said, “This theme symbolizes how we, as a family, should cherish all of our memories and never forget our high school years.” It was a night of celebration to honor the unity and diversity of the 160-member class as well as its place in Bishop Ahr High School history.

The evening began with a Liturgy, presided over by Father Keith Cervine. The Gospel during the liturgy was Matthew 18:12-14, which reminds each of us of how important we are to Christ and that He does not want us to be lost.  He will leave everything so that He can find us!

After mass, Ms. Michelle Penny, Junior class moderator, led the ring ceremony. Class officers Craig Molica and Alyssa Pittari and other Juniors presented their class symbols: a friendship chain signifying the bonds they have formed; a Varsity letter representing athletics; masks representing drama; a musical note; the BGA ring; the Christ Candle reminding us to be aware of the light of Christ’s love, strength and presence to guide us; an hourglass reminding us of the passage of time and all of the memories that we share; and photos of each Junior homeroom emphasizing the family dynamic at BGA.

The presentation of the symbols was followed by the blessing and distribution of the Class Rings, during which Principal Sister Donna Marie Trukowski, Vice Principal Mr. Mark Fiore, and Associate Principal Mr. Harry Ziegler presented the rings to each student. Sister Donna concluded the evening by addressing the Junior class and its guests, remarking on how much the class had grown and reminding them of what still lies ahead. Staying true to tradition, she challenged each student to “turn” one another’s rings, a gesture that serves to strengthen the bonds between classmates, friends, and family members.

This event is yet another of the timeless memories that students of the class of 2020 will take with them when they graduate in little over a year.
