Sports Highlights for Christmas Break

We have lots of Christmas break sports news to update you on so here are some of the Varsity highlights by sport!
The wrestling team took to the skies, spending part of break in sunny Florida to compete against six schools and losing to only one.

The boys basketball team was on the road over break, racking up four wins over Mater Dei 98-65, Sayreville 78-29, Red Bank Regional 77-60, and Burlington Township 74-43. The team was the champion of the Red Bank Regional Tournament and Quadry Adams was named MVP with 36 points over two games. The team started the new year with an 84-49 win in its home opener against Metuchen, led by Quadry Adams who put up 22 points and by Derrick Grant who double-doubled with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The girls basketball team remains undefeated after its first fix games with clean sweeps over break against Colonia 66-16, Egg Harbor 53-27, Middle Township 47-33, Lenape 43-30, and South Plainfield 74-27. The team placed 1st in the Southern Regional Christmas Tournament and Kelsey Ransom was named MVP. The team started off the new year with a division win over South Plainfield led by Emma Boslet with 23 points and a double-double by Kelsey Ransom of 13 points and 18 rebounds. That was followed today by a victory over Woodbridge 82-25 with another 17 points for Emma Boslet and a 12 point/12 rebound double-double for Kelsey Ransom. Megan Herka grabbed 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The bowling, track, and swimming teams did not compete over break but the track team started the year with Eleni Alvarez and Lia Acosta medaling 2nd and 3rd in the 3200m in times of 11:55 and 12:00 respectively. Other notable performances were Isabella Danner in the 1600, Cristian Rodriguez in the 55 dash, and Jimmy King in the Shot Put.
