Welcome from Athletics Director Jerry Smith

Throughout the history of St. Thomas Aquinas / Bishop Ahr the athletics policy has concentrated on creating for its student’s opportunities that will become an integral part of the educational development of the “whole Student”. The school firmly believes that athletics has a very important role to play in this regard and as such has a great interest in the student’s physical well-being and development. As a consequence, athletic programs are designed that will benefit the entire student body.

The growth of athletic activities and facilities over the years has provided the school the opportunity to develop an athletic program that compliments the academic programs of the school, providing quality athletics with quality academics, while providing opportunities for the student to enrich his or her talents in the area of leadership, cooperation, and fair play.

The diversification of the athletic activities can be found in one of our 26 NJSIAA scholastic sports such as: Cross country, soccer, football, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, winter & spring track, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, bowling, swimming, lacrosse and cheerleading. This variety of activities allows a degree of competitiveness so that each student can find his or her level of participation an enjoyable experience, while meeting and socializing with as many fellow students as possible. There are assorted awards offered in the various sports, but the real reward for the student is the opportunity to participate with some degree of efficiency, success, and enjoyment.

St. Thomas Aquinas/Bishop Ahr offers students, through these scholastic sports, a valuable co-curricular experience as part of the STA/BGA life. The premise is that these sports will provide every student moral, physical and educational values. The ultimate goal is that during an academic year, something special is offered to each student as an opportunity to participate at his or her level of interest and physical talent.
