Cross-Curricular Murder Investigation Shapes Students' Understanding

One of the most extensive Project-Based Learning experiences is currently under way at Bishop Ahr High School, involving students from three different courses.

Students in Forensic Science arrived to a surprise the beginning of this week, with a full-fledged crime scene complete with a victim and evidence, including fingerprints, hair samples, and (fake) blood. One group of investigators-in-the-making collected and tested evidence while another group reviewed witness statements.

Once they have concluded their investigation, the evidence will be turned over to our U.S. Law Honors students, who will act as the prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judge. Their proceedings will be filmed and then our Ethics students will act as the jury, who will deliberate and hand down their verdict to the judge.
