Sports Highlights for the Week of 4/1

Spring sports are off to a strong start–here's a look at this week's Varsity highlights:

The Boys Tennis team defeated South Amboy 5-0 with victories posted by Jacob Oil, Jin Zhou, Lizhe Zhang, Joey Dunn, Nachi Gosukonda, and James Zheng.

The Boys Lacrosse team won its first game against J.P. Stevens 7-0 with two goals each by Dyson Hardwick and Bret English. Goalie John Campagna made six saves for the shutout.

The Baseball team earned a divisional split with South River. Dan Rankin picked up his first career varsity win on the mound, striking out 6 batters. At the plate Gerard Chiricolo paced the Trojans offense going 3-5 with an RBI. Kyle Orta went 2-5 with 3 RBI's.

The Softball team won four games by healthy margins, including a double-header on Saturday. They went 11-1 against East Brunswick, 20-3 against Piscataway, 10-3 against Union Catholic, and 12-0 against Brearley. Rebecca Irizarry added a 3-run homer, Colleen Cronin had a 2-run homer, and Alyssa DeJianne and Megan Herka added two homers each as well. DeJianne earned all four wins and Paige Tideback pitched in relief two games.

The boys and girls spring track team had a meet against Metuchen on Tuesday. In the Girls 800, Eleni Alverez placed 1st and Danielle Renda came in 3rd. In the Boys 800, Chris O'Connell took 3rd. In the Boys 200m dash, the Trojans took 1-2-3 with Chris Rodriguez, Temitayo Agbabiaka, and Jaime Hamilton.
